Hi guys, I know that it’s SSMF week, but you might have seen that I spent some time at the LPU meet up in Kerpen, Germany on Saturday, and this has to be featured here! Unfortunately, I had to attend another event and had to leave at 6pm, but An will write Part 2 of this report including a Sushi adventure and Day 2 of the meet up.
Yesterday at 1pm, I met Cathrin at the train station in Cologne. We had a fun time getting to know each other and took the train to Kerpen. During the train ride, we talked about her experiences at other bands’ concerts, like dancing on stage with 30 Seconds To Mars, and crazy fans. She had quite some crazy stories, since she is also a Tokio Hotel Fan and we both agreed that Linkin Park is lucky to not have fans that break into their homes or steal their dogs. Weird!
When we arrived in Kerpen, we were a bit confused on where to go, and Cathrin suggested to take a cab. Fortunately, we met some people and asked them for directions, because the place of the meet up was only 5 minutes from the station.
The meet up was hosted by Anna and organized by Paul from http://www.episodelp.com. I stop my lame text report now and tell the rest in pictures!
This is Anna. She hosted the meet up in her house and had a ton of work to set up everything. She has a daughter who ran through the garden, ate whatever Angie offered her (“Stroopwafels”) and drew on her legs. She is so adorable! I see a soldier in the making!
Now, you know who that is! That’s An and I! We had our own little LPFC staff meet up and it was great to find out that An is as cool in real life, as she is online. She went all the way from Leuven, Belgium to Kerpen, Germany, which was awesome!
Cathrin is the LPUer I met in Cologne and shared a train with. She loves a lot of bands and goes to many festivals and shows. She sure knows how to party and have a good time!
Kai and I (no pun intended), live in the same region, the “Bergisches Land”, which translates into something silly like “hilly country” and makes it sound as if we’re hobbits. We are not. We wear the same shirts though, and it wasn’t even planned! Great minds think alike! Kai has his own band called “Random Cubes“. Check them out, they are awesome!
Here we have Fabio with An. Fabio is from Portugal and currently studies in Angola. Isn’t that a cool place to study?! He is currently on term break and went all the way from Angola to Lisbon and from there to Frankfurt, from Frankfurt to Kerpen. I love how he just travels around and meets his friends no matter where they live. Thanks to Fabio, i have another “Random act of Kindness” on my list. I helped him inflate his air mattress. Okay, it was a bit silly, since I only helped for like 30 seconds, but I add it to my list for giggles.
Kelly also had to inflate her mattress and didn’t really appreciate me taking a photo, but still smiled. Kelly is also from Belgium and came with An, Geertruida and Marijn to the meet up. She was really nice and sweet. Unfortunately, I remembered only after the meet up that she had written a review of an LP show for my blog (pre-LPFC) or I would have thanked her in person. Next time!
Geertruida has one of the hard to pronounce names, but she just calls herself Kayleigh, which is a cool name. She shared the yoke of having two names with me. There’s nothing more awkward than meeting someone who isn’t online a lot, and just doesn’t know that you’re “Adie” and you say: “Hi, I’m Adie, or Melissa. Whatever you prefer”, and they look at you like they want to call the doctors. Now, Kayleigh can understand me. I was told that she gave many of the LPUers at the meet up a ride and drove really long for that, but you couldn’t notice that she was knackered at all. She was really nice and chipper.
Here we have the organizer of the meet up! Paul is the admin of http://www.episodelp.com and an LPU Lifer! If you don’t know what a lifer is, let me just tell you, we’ll never get there. Lifers are LPU members since LPU1! Paul is a fan since 1999! Yes, that’s still in the 20th century! He also has a ton of Linkin Park themed tattoos and went to every single Linkin Park show in Germany. That guy made my inflated fan existence shrink into non-existence.
Big thanks to Paul for the work and dedication!
PRICI! One of the funniest and coolest LPUers ever! Prici came from Switzerland and is, like many others at the meet up, a regular in the LPU chat. It was so great meeting her, and so sad to say goodbye again. Living so far away from each other truly sucks! I loved her shirt which had the “ROADS UNTRAVELED” lyrics on it. Pretty cool idea. I have a feeling it will be copied quite a bit.
Michi is also pretty funny. He brought chocolate with weed, maybe that’s why he’s funny, but he said it isn’t the working stuff. Uh huh, sure. My memory gets a bit blurry (no weed, I’m sure), but I think he said, Prici gave him a ride to the meet up. This is cool. Edit: Props to Michi, because he was the one who took Prici to the meet up! When fans can’t come because the meet up is too far away, train tickets are expensive, it’s cool that there are people who offer their cars and make an effort to help get the people together.
Here we have Teresa, Lily and Kevin. Teresa greeted me with “Your hair is so awesome!” which made her my favorite person ever. She also has mad talent in the drawing department. Check out the gallery below for pics of her drawing on the meet up flag.
Lily is from Düsseldorf, which is my second home town, since I studied and worked there for 9 years. It’s so awesome that I got to know another fan who lives so close. Also, happy belated birthday, Lily!
This picture has the best facial expressions ever. I think, we should all make memes with it.
Marijn and Cathrin are doing their funny high-five thingy in this picture, which was so funny that everyone had to take a pic of it. Marijn’s name was so hard to pronounce that most of us just called him “M” or simulated a coughing fit while saying his name. His last name is “Kok” and I don’t have to tell you how that sounds. Needless to say, his story about his brother getting called to the principal via loudspeaker when he studied in New Zealand, was extra funny. In case you ever meet Marijn – which would make you very happy – you should ask him to say “Monopoly”. That might break the ice.
Angie, was super funny and brought tons of cool food from the Netherlands. Kai was totally crazy about the Joopie chips and Gina, Anna’s little daughter found a new friend in her. She also pimped up the meet up flag with some cool drawings.
Hanne was really tired. I heard that she only had 3 hours of sleep, but she suffered in silence and toughed it out.
Here we finally have Annemarie, or let’s just call her “Henk”. I think she’s super awesome, but the bad troll Thomas (from blackchester.de), who unfortunately couldn’t come to the meet up, has made her call me an awful abomination of my real name via LPU chat. I won’t repeat it here, in case someone gets cheeky now, but Henk and Thomas…I got you on my agenda!
Here you can see Lasse joking around with An and Cathrin. He came with the train from Denmark! This is dedication! I’m very thankful that he was willing to go all the way to Germany, cause it gave all of us the great opportunity to meet him. I hope to see him again at a meet up.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t talk to everyone at the meet up, but I’m looking forward to the next one. Maybe, I’ll talk to you!
Here are all pictures I made in one big gallery. Enjoy!
