Summer of 2015. Three girls desperately needing a Linkin Park gig. Recognize the story, right?
These adventures always have a similar beginning: checking tour dates, trying to figure out which city we want to go, how will we deal with our jobs and how much will it cost us. This year we’d have an extra special treat: Ines’ birthday in September.
Our birthday gift to Ines was letting her choose where to see Linkin Park that tour.
And Rome is the lucky winner! We flew to Rome a few days before Rock in Roma to celebrate Ines’ birthday on September 4, welcomed with pouring rain and a thunderstorm but she still loved it!
We visited all the main monuments, had pizza, ice cream and even some rosé wine! Ladies were having fun… but the best was yet to come!
(I was sick, again. And I really feared not being able to attend the show the way I’d like to. Every time I travel for Linkin Park it seems that I get sick – it must be some kind of cosmic payment for having so much fun!) Sunday is the day. After lunch, we need to take a train and a bus to get to Ippodromo Delle Capannelle. Along the way we caught the wrong bus so we were too late for LPU Early Entry. It was meant to go all wrong! The waiting is long, the sun is hot, the doors won’t open….
Still, these girls’ company is just the best. Ines and Ana were at ease and patient. We have time to chat and chat and chat…. Finally they open the doors and we were off.
We finally got in! The venue was smaller than we would’ve imagined, cozy though. No coffee! That’s the first thing I remember: no coffee stall in an Italian music festival?! Sometimes the world just doesn’t make any sense!
We tried to reach the front rows thinking we wouldn’t have any luck but guess who screams “LPUERS THIS WAY!” Lorenzo! Ah! It wasn’t all wrong after all!
Oh wait- do we all have the LPU subscription with us? No girl left behind. If one of us does not have the printed confirmation, we are all going back. But we did and we accessed the LPU bubble as I called it! Right in front of the stage, plenty of room to sit and chat, in and out for drinks and walking around.
We were so lucky! We just sat and lied down, resting our backs, trying to get some rest for my throat and just enjoying one more trip.
Simple Plan was ok! Ana had a lot of fun! But we were really waiting for Linkin Park!
The guys were so energetic! I could bet they were happy to go home after that show, the last one of that tour just after a week in Germany. If you think they were tired or in a bad mood, you’re wrong! Brad was almost talkative with the crowd, Mike was jumping all over the stage, Chester was Chester. We didn’t have Joe Hahn, but Warren was fantastic replacing him!
We had one emotional moment. A special moment to honor Alessandro, a fan who had passed way before the show.
Chester said a few words for Alessandro – we all felt like we had lost someone close to us. After that the crowd went crazy screaming “A PLACE FOR MY HEAD!” his favorite song. And the band just couldn’t say no!
And they went for it. Brad needed a few moments to prepare his guitar… and… everybody just jumped and sang with the guys!
We didn’t want this night to end.
I made a new friend, a photographer who sent me some of the most amazing photos of that concert! Thank you Edoardo!
And thank you girls Ana Maria and Ines!
